Martin is a marine engineer with over 30 years experience in the merchant navy and yacht , having started his cadetship in September 1989, then working his way up the ranks on a variety of commercial vessels before moving into the yachting sector in February 2007.
Martin has worked on several new build yacht projects, ranging from 70m up to +150m, covering various aspects of the builds, including steel and welding inspections, FAT’s of equipment, plan approvals, overseeing day to day construction up to the final sea trials and delivery.
The most recent new build project was a 136m Charter yacht. This project was overseen from prior to commencement of steel cutting all the way through to delivery and warranty and then beyond.
Delivering this vessel to the owners in March 2019, and then remaining onboard as the Chief Engineer, before finally moving ashore to become the Vessel Superintendent at the start of 2020.
Martin is currently working for BURGESS Yachts and oversees the Technical needs for a fleet of 12 yachts, ranging from 50m up to 110m.
Martin holds the following accreditations and memberships with professional bodies; - IEng IMarEng MIMarEST MIET and he also holds a MCA Class 1 Motor Certificate of Competency.
Martin has just completed his training as a Boat Safety Scheme (BSS) Examiner
Martin has had a passion for the UK canals for many years, he finally made the move to being a liveaboard. This was on a 65ft x 10ft wide beam which was designed and built to Martin’s own specifications.
Currently Martin owns a 2008 Coulter built boat with a 1948 Kelvin K3 Engine installed. Since purchasing this narrowboat, Martin and his fiance Joanne have spent a significant amount of time updated and modernising the systems onboard, Barbarian has also undergone a full bare metal repaint in 2020.
